1 Year Old
He's 1! Been that way for almost a month now and I just got him to the doctor. Here is a word or two about my little man (Jules calls him little man now too!)
He's 26.8 lbs (90%) and 31 inches long (75%). He wears 24 month clothes and a size 5 diaper and has since about March.
He can say 'uh, oh' (and does quite often), 'nana' for banana, 'bye bye', 'night', and it often sounds like he really is singing 'Baa Baa Black Sheep'. Oh, and of course, he says 'momma' and 'dadda'. He is trying really hard to say baby. He points at everything he wants and whatever he is trying to say.
He can point to his nose upon command. He can wave and he can do the sign for more. He gives kisses on command and can blow kisses.
He has all his teeth except the canine teeth and 2 year molars (and the canine teeth are swollen as I write this).
He likes to drink out of a straw more than his sippy cup now.
He's almost walking alone. He takes steps from one thing to another thing and from mom to dad and walks holding your hand. He wants to take off so bad and gets really mad if we leave him.
He's gotten into hiding. He hides under the desk upstairs and in the closet in the bathroom.
He loves to shut doors and try to open them.
He still often acts very afraid of Memphis.
He loves watching Elmo with Jules.
He loves to cuddle and his favorite spot to lay his head is my shoulder.
He is 100% a momma's boy and often gets upset when I hold Jules and not him but he loves when I hold both of them at the same time!
He loves water play, baths and popscicles.
He has the sweetest smile and 1 little dimple.
He loves giving Jules hugs at night.
His favorite food is definitely bananas but he will eat a ton of watermelon and cantelope too. He eats the insides of grapes and spits the skins back out all over my floor! Nice! He is also a straight carb eater. There have been many times he will eat whatever carb is on his plate and leave all the meat there. Total opposite of Jules who will only eat meat. Maybe its their way of not wasting any food!
He already throws many many temper tantrums. I'm talking throwing his head on the floor screaming or arching his back screeching. It's nice...and pretty consistent lately. I think most of it comes because his teeth have been hurting consistently. Unfortunately, he will get 1 or 2 at a time instead of all 4 of a certain kind. You know its bad when the doctor even says, "Yeah, I can tell that he is independant - he wants to do what he wants to do."
On the other hand, get some ibuprofen in him and he is super silly and really fun.
Here he is watching a movie at the doctor's office. He sits with his legs crossed ALL THE TIME! Its pretty funny to me!

Beach Vacation!
I cannot believe this year is almost halfway over! We had a beach vacation planned with the Wallace's this past weekend. I had a lot of fun. I was initially worried about how much Jules and Kathryn would 'fight', for lack of a better term, because their teachers have said that they are a lot like sisters. We've seen it hanging out - they love and hug on each other all the time but, man, they had can have some knock down drag-outs too. You know, 2 year old stuff! But, they did great, considering how much they were together. We really did not have that many temper tantrums at all.
It rained a lot but luckily we missed a good bit of it or it hit perfectly with our nap schedule. I could get used to naps everyday! I need a job that allows this!
We had a rough ride down. Mom had to do a lot of entertaining.
The first day out we hit the beach and went to The Village for dinner and fun that night. Here's the group. We are so photogenic!
The girls wanted to do the 'jump jump' so we gave it a go. Here she is preparing (don't mind the background footage! - this was the best picture we had!) and the video is pretty funny.
Everything was going good until she went even HIGHER! BAD IDEA! I wanted to post the video but it is taking way too long!
The next day we did some swimming at home and ate some popscicles. Took a wagon ride or two, took some naps, and went to see Madagascar 3.
The girls loved the movie. We got to see their dance moves at the end to I Like To Move It, Move It. They had the ladies behind us staying through the credits for the entertainment! Again, the video is super cute but it won't upload.
We went back to the beach the last day and stayed for quite awhile. Shook was throwing fits the first day which resulted in face plants in the sand over and over again. This led to some caked on sand around his eyes. So, the last day we decided he could sit in his seat or with mom. He sat with mom most of the time or he did what the adults were doing.
It's all about the relaxation folks!
The girls played in the sand some.
Jules put on a show - dancing with the tent pole. If you want your kids to be upstanding citizens, I would advise against leaving them with us! If you want them to have a good time, you know where we are!
She does this closed mouth smile all the time now. I love it. It shows her dimples off even more!
In all seriousness, she also has this thing about taking off her clothes and diapers. She has always liked not having clothes on (not that she dislikes clothes) but lately it has gotten worse we have noticed. This weekend was no different. She started it the first morning taking off her pajama bottoms and diaper. Then, after the beach the first day, she would not keep her cover up on, which was the only thing she wore to eat lunch in. Its constant! The moment we got home yesterday she stripped all her clothes off. After seeing the pole dancing, I think her dad is even more concerned!
That night we went out to dinner and to The Track. Jules and Kathryn rode all kinds of rides and Shook rode the swings.
Everything was all good until the Farris Wheel stopped at the top!
The rest of that ride was pretty crazy for her but she got back on the horse.
Which is a really good thing because I love rides and we are headed to 6 Flags this summer!
Afterward, we went back to DeeDee and Daddy Deck's house for some cake and ice cream for my birthday. Turns out it was Jules' birthday too and I didn't even know it! We had to sing to her and she blew out the candles. It was her 'cupcake' too! Fun times!
You might can tell from the pictures that Jules' face is super red. She had an eczema breakout the last day and it was all over. I'm not sure if it was from the sand or from the little bit of over the counter spray sunscreen we used at the beach once she got all sandy. Not good. We got some Singulair though so we are on our way to recovery.
